Meat Head Charcoal burns hot, burns clean, contains no chemicals and produces almost no ash. That means customers don’t need to replace their charcoal so frequently (either to keep the fire going or the next time they grill), and there’s no unpleasant aftertaste from added binders and starters. And clean-up is easy, because there’s very little ash residue.

  • Crafted from Quebracho – “Axe Breaker wood” – a South American hardwood All natural – no binders or chemicals
  • Very dense, bold chucks – feel the difference compared to your old stuff
  • Lights clean & fast – no sparks or popping
  • Burns hot – 12,000 BTU’s – bring more heat to sear the perfect steak
  • 1.5x longer burn than other lump charcoal brands
  • Great flavor – works well with beef, pork, chicken, seafood or veggies
  • Responsibly sourced from Paraguay

Burns hot and long

I prefer to smoke things low and slow, and MeatHead charcoal the best I've found. It is a little hard to keep the temperature below 200 in a Green Egg, but it is well worth the trouble for superb smoked salmon, ribs, pork chops, grilled chicken, you name it. I have yet to try it with smoked brisket but plan to try that next.

Pleasant Surprise

I have tried them all and finally settled on “JD” (actual name intentionally omitted) charcoal for its consistency and ability to burn. I was at our local hardware store and noticed Meat Head’s bag had a “Headquartered in GA logo” and contained 2lbs more than most brands and even 5lbs in one case for roughly the same price. As a Georgian, this was a no brainer purchase. The charcoal burns as advertised, sizing is consistent and NO trash in the bag at all. Like the review below, I did a 13 hour cook at 250 (cook temped average 252) on my large BGE and was surprised with the amount of coal left.

Great product! Do not change a thing. Happy to have a new favorite. Go Dawgs!!

Low and Slow Perfection

Just like they said, very, very controllable in a BGE XL. I had no problem maintaining a 250F temperature for 12 hours smoking a 15 lb packer brisket (trimmed to 10). I had plenty of charcoal left at the end. It was never this easy to control the temperature with other brand lump charcoal. You really don’t need a fancy temperature controller if you use Meat Head. This is now my “go-to” charcoal if I need low and slow performance.

Brisket tasted good too and I had decent smoke rings. It does burn clean like they claim. I highly recommend.
